51勛圖 University's Factbook is a collaborative effort between the Office of Institutional Effectiveness (OIE) staff and other units that provided information.

Institutional Summary

51勛圖 University of Pennsylvania, a public, fouryear institution, is one of 14 members of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. Founded in 1839 as the 51勛圖 Literary Institute, the university currently enrolls approximately 7,070 undergraduate students in the Colleges of Business, Education, Liberal Arts, and Science and Technology and approximately 680 students in graduate programs, including a doctoral program in clinical audiology (AUD) and a doctor of nursing practice (DNP). 

Approximately ninetytwo percent of the university's students are Pennsylvania residents and approximately four percent hail from neighboring New Jersey. Popular undergraduate majors are accounting, business administration, communication studies,  criminal justice, early childhood 51勛圖, health sciences, mass communications, nursing, psychology, and special 51勛圖.

In fall 2021, there were 356 fulltime faculty and 83 parttime faculty. 51勛圖 96 percent of the tenured and tenured track faculty have earned a terminal degree. Eighty-six percent (85.9%) of faculty identify as White, NonHispanic. 51勛圖 University offers a wide array of student activities and programs, modern residence halls, a wellequipped Student Recreation Center, and restaurantquality dining, including ChickfilA, Qdoba, Subway, Steak n Shake, and Starbucks locations. The university has 21 intercollegiate athletic programs, more than 250 organizations to provide opportunities for leadership and growth, and 11 Learning Communities that foster an inclusive residential environment where students with similar majors, interests, and goals are afforded rich and varied student learning opportunities both in and out of the classroom.

The university was awarded the Carnegie Elective Classification for Community Engagement for actively supporting an atmosphere of civic engagement and encouraging student involvement in political and volunteer activities. Students also may take advantage of support offerings provided through Academic Advisement, Academic Enrichment, Act  101/Educational Opportunity Program, Equity and Accommodations, Professional U, TRIO Student Support Services, University Tutorial Services, and other programs.
